THE ALGARVE'S BEST BEACHES

By Raj Thakkar  |  21:27 No comments

The Algarve is home to many beaches all of a high quality. Some are favourites for families because of the water sports and facilities on the beach, some that are favourites for people who want to get away from everything. Many tourists go on Algarve holidays for the golden sandy beaches, sparkling clear waters and the unbelievable weather. So here is my guide for the best beaches in the Algarve

Praia de Marinha

Praia de Marinha
Located along the Atlantic coast in Caramujeira, lays one of the most symbolic and beautiful beaches in all of Portugal. The Michelin Guide considered this to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, and in the top 100 in the world. In 1998 the beach was awarded with the Golden Beach award, by the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment, because of its splendid natural qualities. The beach is surrounded by cliffs, and has outstanding waters; it is often used as promotion in Portugal travel guides.
Praia da Falésia beach

Praia da Falésia beach
Situated in Albufeira, this long stretch of golden sand and transparent waters spreads 8 km along the coast of Algarve. The red cliffs that create the amazing backdrop to this beach act as a barrier from the winds during the colder months. This is a great place to lie down and enjoy the sunshine and to reminisce about your holiday or think about what to do next. The beach offers a variety of different activities, and don’t worry about it being too crowded the beach is so big, there will always be a spot with your name on it.

The beach at the heart of the very popular resort Albufeira is one of the most popular beaches as it is family friendly. Right near the beach there are plenty of restaurants, shops, bars and cafes which allow people to have a drink and a bite to eat after a day at the beach. There are many water sports offered along this beach, so this is a great place for you to come and splash around in the warm blue waters, while your kids drive around on a jet-ski or banana boat.

Praia do Anção

Another large beach, with endless amounts of golden sand, located in Central Algarve, it is a very popular place with families. The gentle calm waters are protected from the wind by the dunes behind which makes this beach perfect for water-skiing. Here there are sun loungers and boats to rent. Another highlight is that right near this beach is one of the Algarve’s finest fish restaurants. This beach was awarded the blue flag for its clean beach and lovely waters.

Praia de Albandeira

Located in Central Algarve, this hidden gem is completely out of reach for many tourists. Praia de Albanderia is a small beach squeezed in between the cliffs. This beach isn’t exactly family friendly as it has no facilities really at all no water sports, no sun loungers and very few visitors. There is one wooden bar located above the rocks, and a good place to stop off for a nice cold beer.
